Proficiency Level Description
The Learner is able to:
4
Choose a mixture from the list provided. Describe how you would separate it and what physical and chemical properties were used.
Apply their knowledge of properties to a real life mixture.
3
Understands a substance has physical (density, boiling point, and solubility, etc.) and chemical (reactivity,pH) properties. Understands mixtures can be separated into the original substances based on their physical properties.
Compare and contrast the physical and chemical properties of two elements. Given a mixture, deduce how it could be separated into its components.
2
Knows the terms physical properties, chemical properties, homogenous, and heterogenous.
Explain ways in which homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures are different. Given a common substance (water, salt) describe it physical and chemical properties.
